Biotechnology in dentistry

The tooth enamel is known  to be destroyed  by the impact  of  milk acid which synthesizes bacteria inhabiting mouth cavity. The scientists of Florida University have modeled a strain of  streptococci   which are unable to converse  sugar to milk acid .  Experiments on rats have shown that  a single  dose of  aerosol spray enriched with these microorganisms  suffice to change the composition of bacterial flora fo r the whole life  and prevents thus  tooth destruction .

The other perspective in this direction is regenerative medicine methods. Stem cells specialized in  starting dentine tissue  can be used to grow  teeth crowns or whole teeth.
